TETE-A-TETE WITH GAURAV GUPTA

Gaurav Gupta the designer is all things loud, experimental, gutsy and chic. Gaurav Gupta the personality is shy, often reserved, questioning and full of wonderment. The prints that he showcased on 'I Love Style' were a vision of his recurring dreams of birds from childhood. His fascination for the blank canvas of material has haunted him into an inexhaustible exploration for his drapes and saris. The man is highly creative! It was very interesting to learn that Gaurav started off his collections in matte tones of black and grey, whites and beiges and if you see his collection today they feature the most electric blues, tangerine and reds. Since there is a reflection of his personality in his work, is it safe to say that he's discovering a burst of celebration from within? I would have to say so... with a big smile!!

 

We shot five episodes with him and each article of clothing he gave me to model for the show... from his kimono-style bird print ankle-length dress to his one-piece sari dress, his Victorian-inspired gowns to his sculpted structured cocktail dresses with shoulder pads, the looks were all so different. And when we speak about style, one can't go past this man's dressing! GG has got it going on... baby! He is edgy and has a punk-Goth streak... a rawness mixed with the sweetest personality and full of so much warmth. This was a fabulous experience for me and I wanted to keep absolutely everything I wore!! To our Karmik designer Gaurav Gupta... I Love, love, love all that you are!!
